This featured ride is provided by Moto-Maps® from their New Hampshire booklet and was created and reported by the company’s founder, Keith Myers.
This ride starts and ends in Laconia, NH – best known by motorcyclists as the home of Laconia Bike Week. Currently celebrating its 84th anniversary, activities for bike week extend throughout the area – with the largest concentration of activity at Weirs Beach. New Hampshire’s lake region lies in the center of the state at the base of the White Mountains and offers visitors access to some of the state’s most historic and popular attractions. The ride follows a large figure-eight pattern throughout the lakes region making a complete circle around New Hampshire’s largest lake: Lake Winnipesaukee.
Stay on Route 25 for several more miles and you will notice the terrain changing a bit as you head away from the larger lakes. Turn left when you reach Route 113 east and follow that for only a couple miles before merging straight into Route 113A. At this point, you will feel like you’re on a different ride – the road narrows and twists nicely through the woods – have fun on this part of the ride. Through breaks in the forest, you will notice the mountains to the north. Stay on Route 113A back to Route 113 west for more fun as you head down the west side of Squam Lake. At the intersection of Route 3, turn left and head back south. After about 4.5 miles, take another left on to Route 25B. Route 25B is the connecting road that will drop you back to Center Harbor on Route 25. Repeating a few miles from about and hour or so earlier, continue on Route 25 east to the intersection of Route 109 south. Heading down Route 109 may feel a bit like stepping back in time. The area offers a variety of boutique shopping as well as small and unique museums and attractions like: Castle in the Clouds, Libby Museum, Wright Museum and the NH Boat Museum. The village of Wolfeboro itself is known for being the oldest summer resort town in America. You may end up spending a lot of time on this 17 mile stretch of road.
Route 109 merges straight into Route 28 in downtown Wolfeboro. Follow Route 28 south for just over 7 miles before turning right onto Route 28A. Route 28A will provide you with some twisty pavement and glimpses of the lake before bringing you to Alton Bay and the junction of Route 11. Follow Route 11 west – stopping for the lakeside photo opportunities – for about 13 miles before turning right onto Route 11B. Route 11B is the scenic short-cut that takes you right to the bridge at Weirs Beach. This area completely transforms for one week a year in June – so if you’re traveling during bike week, expect a wait in line at this intersection. To end the ride back in the town of Laconia, follow Route 3 south to Route 107 south back to the start point. This ride is only 123.6 miles in total mileage but with all the things to do and places to see, make sure that you give yourself the entire day!
